The beauty of multi-generational cooking is that in every generation (לדור ודור, l'dor va'dor ... literally translating to carrying traditions "from generation to generation") the food evolves with new ingredients and techniques while keeping the soul of the recipe and family traditions in mind. You don't have to be overly kitschy to be relevant. Produce good food, tell a good story and invite the right people into your kitchen — that will guarantee a successful gathering.
“Ripka”, the nickname my family often calls me, means “little fish” in Russian. It is the perfect name for the eatery and curated gallery space that I have been envisioning and slowly building from the ground up. It is a homage to everything my family has cultivated since arriving to this country. I am so thankful that I get to share something so meaningful to me as my cultural heritage on the plate.
